| MSES develops
a Hazardous Materials Business Plan (HMBP) for school sites
in accordance with Health and Safety Code, Chapter 6.95, Section
25000 et seq.
This section requires that the school district maintain a
hazardous communication program to inform employees on protect
themselves from hazardous substances, and on detecting the
presence of a hazardous chemical in their work area. MSES
Environmental Field Chemists review the chemical and hazardous
materials inventories, evaluate them, and determine if the
school site or district facility meets a threshold . This
threshold is 55 gallons, 500 pounds, or 200 cubic feet for
compressed gases or the applicable Federal Threshold Quantity
for an extremely hazardous substances (specified in 40 CFR
Part 355, Appendix A and B, which triggers the development
of the HMBP).
A specific training program is developed for district employees
involved in the operation and management of hazardous materials
at school sites and district facilities. The training includes
the proper utilization of the hazardous communication program.
